We are delighted to welcome you to Getting It Right First Time: Mastering Primary ACL Reconstruction, Managing Rotational Laxity and Optimising Rehabilitation, the ESSKA Sports Knee Section Focus Meeting, in Dublin on 14–15 May 2027.
Successful primary ACL reconstruction begins with a thorough understanding of the patient and extends through surgical planning, technical execution and rehabilitation. This comprehensive two-day course brings these stages together in an interactive, practical programme, exploring the decisions and details that shape each patient’s treatment.
Live patient assessment workshops, interactive MRI interpretation and case-based discussions will guide participants through clinical examination, individualised surgical planning and graft selection. Throughout the meeting, we will encourage questions, discussion and the exchange of experience with expert faculty.
Four dedicated re-live surgery sessions lie at the heart of the programme, covering graft harvest and preparation; tunnel placement, graft passage and fixation; surgical pearls, pitfalls and performance; and lateral procedures for rotational laxity. Expert commentary will connect technical demonstrations with clinical decision-making, highlighting practical tips, common challenges and strategies to avoid complications.
The programme will also explore when ACL reconstruction alone may be sufficient and when additional lateral stabilisation should be considered. A practical rehabilitation workshop will bring surgeons and specialist physiotherapists together to address early recovery, from restoring extension and activating the quadriceps to managing swelling, gait and challenging rehabilitation cases.
Designed for orthopaedic surgeons, fellows, senior trainees, physiotherapists and the wider multidisciplinary ACL team, this meeting offers an opportunity to deepen knowledge, refine technique and strengthen collaboration across the patient journey.

The meeting
Primary reconstruction
Live patient assessment, MRI interpretation and graft choice, then graft harvest, tunnel placement, graft passage and fixation, with surgical pearls and pitfalls.
Rotational laxity
The high-grade pivot shift, hyperlax athletes and when to add lateral augmentation, followed by the modified Lemaire tenodesis, the Ellison procedure and ALL reconstruction.
Rehabilitation
Surgeons and specialist physiotherapists on restoring extension, controlling swelling, activating the quadriceps, recovering gait and difficult early cases.
